The Puma Energy is hiring a Country Finance Manager.

Function

The Finance Manager is responsible for the implementation of group financial policies and internal controls across the organization. He manages the annual budget process, control costs and capital expenditure, manages debtors and cash flows, ensures tax and statutory compliance, ensures that the Fixed asset register is well maintained and archiving of documents are properly done. He must also ensure that all internal and external reporting requirements are met. He must demonstrate strong leadership and must manage the finance team on a daily basis to achieve the different objectives which have been set. The Finance Manager must also ensure that monthly, quarterly and annual financial close (in line with IFRS standards) are completed as per agreed deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring compliance with Company Secretarial and Statutory Requirements, including accounting standards and policies.
  • Ensure that daily, weekly, monthly and yearly reporting is completed as per agreed deadlines. Financial Statements must comply with International Financial Reporting Standards and each element of the financial statements must be fully reconciled and analysed before being released to stakeholders.
  • Oversee the operations of the treasury department by reviewing the cash flow forecasts, ensuring that the forex exposure is adequately hedged, managing and investing excess cash positions, and ensuring continuous access to capital. Liaise with the different banks, ensure compliance with all loan covenants and recommend appropriate level of dividends to the Board.
  • Maintain a well-documented system of accounting policies and procedures and ensure a fit for purpose Internal Control Environment. Liaise with both internal and external auditors to ensure a smooth completion of audits. Review report of Internal and external auditors and ensure that identified issues are closed on a timely basis.
  • Understand and monitor key financial indicators, control risks and ensure mitigations are in place.
  • Tax administration & compliance – Ensure that tax returns are filed on a timely basis. The tax return must be compliant to the Income Tax Act and must not expose the company to future tax assessments. This must be done with the support of the company’s tax advisors and after consulting the group tax department.
  • Ensure that the credit exposure of the company is well managed by reviewing and approving the credit limits of each credit customers on a regular interval. Receivables must be closely managed to ensure that customers pay within agreed payment terms.
  • Co-ordinate legal issues and obtain assistance of Legal Counsel as appropriate.
  • Ensure that stock movement is reconciled on a daily basis and all abnormal losses are investigated and explained. Changes in unit cost of product must be thoroughly analysed and explained. Month end stock count must be well controller and managed so as to minimise stock losses.
  • Ensure that the group procurement policy is implemented and enforced in the organisation.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Professional Accounting qualification – CA , ACCA , CPA, CIMA or equivalent qualification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business
  • Master’s degree in business administration or in Finance would be a definite advantage

Experience

  • Seasoned professional with extensive understanding of business, knowledge of financial systems and local legislation preferably with a large company
  • Professional Accountant with previous experience in auditing, compliance, preparation of financial statements and budgets
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a management level position
  • Experience in managing a team to achieve agreed goals

Skills

  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Previous experience on an ERP is a must (Navision or alternatively SAP, Oracle, JDE).
  • Good interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Good negotiation skills.
  • Good leadership Skills.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good report writing skills (English).
